Child Safety Standards
Valour does not tolerate child sexual abuse and exploitation (CSAE) in any form. This page describes what is prohibited, how to report it, and what Valour does when it is reported. These standards apply to every part of official Valour services: planets, channels, direct messages, group chats, threads, wikis, voice and video, profiles, and uploaded files.
What is prohibited
The following are prohibited and lead to a permanent ban:
- Child sexual abuse material (CSAM), meaning any image, video, audio, or text that depicts or describes a minor in sexual activity or in a sexualized way. This includes drawn, animated, edited, and AI-generated material.
- Sharing, requesting, trading, linking to, or advertising CSAM.
- Grooming, meaning any attempt to build a relationship with a minor in order to sexually exploit them.
- Sexual messages, images, or requests sent to a minor, including requests for images of themselves.
- Sextortion, meaning threats to share sexual images of someone, or demands for images, money, or anything else under threat.
- Sexualizing minors in any other way, including in roleplay, usernames, profiles, and planet names.
- Using Valour to arrange to meet a minor for sexual purposes, or to traffic or solicit a minor.
Not knowing that someone is a minor is not an excuse. These rules are part of the Platform Rules and the Terms of Service.
Age requirements
Everyone must be at least 13 years old, or the minimum age required where they live, to use Valour. Valour asks for a date of birth when an account is created and does not create accounts for people under 13. Accounts found to belong to someone under the minimum age are disabled.
Valour also uses the date of birth to keep minors out of content meant for adults. Members under 18 cannot see channels marked NSFW, even when a planet's roles would otherwise allow it.
How to report
If you see anything that may involve the sexual abuse or exploitation of a child, report it right away.
- In the app: open the menu on the message, thread, comment, planet, or user and choose Report. Select Minor Sexual Content for sexual content involving a minor, or Underage User for an account that belongs to someone under the minimum age. Your report goes to Valour's staff.
- By email: write to safety@valour.gg. Include links or IDs for the content or account if you can.
Messages on Valour are end-to-end encrypted. When you report a message, your device includes its content in the report so that staff can review what you saw.
Do not download, copy, screenshot, or forward suspected abuse material, even to report it. Reporting the message in the app is enough.
If a child is in immediate danger, contact your local emergency services first. In the United States you can also report to the National Center for Missing & Exploited Children (NCMEC) at report.cybertip.org or 1-800-843-5678.
What Valour does
When Valour learns of content or behavior covered by these standards, staff:
- remove the content and permanently ban the accounts involved, along with any accounts used to evade the ban;
- preserve the content and account information as the law requires, so that it is available to investigators;
- report apparent child sexual abuse material and child exploitation to NCMEC's CyberTipline, as United States law requires, and to other authorities where the law requires it;
- respond to valid requests from law enforcement.
Tools that help keep people safe
- Anyone can block another user, which stops that user from contacting them.
- Planet owners and moderators can delete content, remove members, and ban members from their planet. Planets can set their own rules, but they cannot allow anything these standards prohibit.
- Content meant for adults must be posted in channels marked NSFW, and may never be sent to a minor.
